GYOKURO Goku

GYOKURO Goku

This is a special Japanese tea, the bushes of which are grown in the shade, protected from sunlight, for about 3-4 weeks before harvest, so it is rich in amino acids (theanine), which give the tea a sweet-salty umami flavor.

The master of this tea is the fifth-generation representative of the Uejima Sourokuen company - Uejima Noriyasu, who began producing tea on his father's farm in 1977, at the age of 22.

DESCRIPTION

This farm's Gyokuro tea is made from the leaves of the Goko cultivar. This is a special Japanese tea whose bushes are grown in the shade, protected from sunlight, for about 3-4 weeks before harvest, giving it a rich, sweet-salty umami flavor.

DIRECTLY FROM JAPAN

We often see the label: “Straight from Japan.” Have you ever wondered what that really means? Does “made in Japan” mean “straight from Japan”? It turns out, not necessarily!
Often, tea labeled "Made in Japan" does not come to you directly from Japan, but from warehouses in Poland, Germany, or another EU country.
What does this mean? Matcha is extremely sensitive to environmental conditions. Once it is ground into a powder, its quality begins to deteriorate over time and if stored in inappropriate conditions – the taste becomes bland, the umami disappears, the color turns yellow, and the taste can become bitter.
When kept in Europe:
The tea may already be several months old when you buy it. And if the tea (especially matcha) is not vacuum-packed, refrigerated, and sold quickly, its quality deteriorates very quickly.
· When shipped directly from Japan (especially from farms or small producers):
You get it shortly after grinding, which means freshness, a bright green color, and a fresh umami flavor and maximum aromaticity.
In our store, we order tea in small quantities and it arrives to you directly from Japan. Matcha is ground only right before it is shipped to us in Lithuania - this means that you buy it as fresh as possible.

ABOUT THE CREATOR

This tea farm is located in Wazuka-cha, Kyoto Prefecture. It was founded in 1835, and tea master Uejima Noriyasu is a fifth-generation representative of the farm.
All products from this farm are made with special care and love from tea bushes grown in the fields of this farm.
Wazuka is located in the southern part of Kyoto Prefecture, where conditions are particularly favorable for tea production. Suitable soil and morning mists caused by the large difference in day and night temperatures have long made Wazuka known as the center of Japanese sencha tea production.
Uji tea is one of the most famous teas in the Kyoto region, and Wazuka is the largest tea-producing region. The entire town is dotted with tea plantations and is also called "Chagenkyo" (Tea Paradise/Teatopia).
