What are the benefits of green tea?

  • As early as the 12th century, Zen Buddhist monks in Japan were growing tea and using it for medicinal and spiritual purposes. They already understood the benefits of tea for strengthening the body.

However, it should be said that tea is not a medicinal product or medicine. 99.4 percent of tea is water and only 0.6 percent (matcha tea is different) – tea. However, drinking green Japanese tea is not just a way to stop, relax and take a breather – the water-soluble substances in tea and their chemical properties help us stay healthy, strong and energetic.

Green tea contains four main water-soluble elements: L-theanine, catechin, caffeine and vitamin C.

    L-THEANINE

An amino acid found in tea and some mushrooms. Theanine content in tea leaves increases significantly when tea bushes are shaded from the sun for a period of time before harvest. The sweet umami flavor is found in tea – this is theanine, which has a relaxing and calming effect, but at the same time strengthens concentration and memory, and stimulates creativity.

    CATECHIN

An element of the polyphenol group, an antioxidant. It is also found in cocoa, some fruits and berries. Tea contains the catechin EGCG most of all. Catechin has a bitter taste and has " astringent" effect, causing a feeling of dryness in the mouth. Catechin strengthens immunity, protects the cardiovascular system, helps control body weight and improves oral health.

    CAFFEINE

Belongs to the methylxanthine group. Found in tea, coffee, and cocoa, it provides energy. Caffeine has a bitter taste that is enhanced when tea is brewed with water that is too hot.

    VITAMIN C

Ascorbic (also called citric) acid – an immune-boosting antioxidant found in many fruits and vegetables.

In summary – Green tea is not a medicine, but it can be a great daily habit that benefits your health. When consumed in moderation – about 2-4 cups per day – it can help maintain energy, improve concentration, and contribute to overall well-being.
